What to expect from Green Bay Packers’ on the third day of the 2018 NFL Draft.

The Packers came away from the opening three rounds of the draft with a trio of defensive players.

Cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson, and linebacker Oren Burks will all be expected to help the unit improve under new defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.

But the draft is far from over. The Packers enter the final day with eight selections. What can we expect on Saturday?

Best players remaining

There’s still plenty of talent left on the board ahead of Day 3. The Packers don’t pick again until the 33rd pick of the fourth round, so general manager Brian Gutekunst may attempt to trade up if he has particular player in mind.

Gutekunst could look to add some depth along the offensive line. Tackles Tyrell Crosby and Jamarco Jones could be options in the fourth round.

Wide receiver remains a need for the Packers. A lot of the top talent is now gone, but I’m a fan of Deon Cain out of Clemson. He could be picked at some stage in the fourth round, and Green Bay might need to trade up to have a chance of selecting him. Other receivers to watch are DaeSean Hamilton, Equanimeous St. Brown and Daurice Fountain.

Edge rushers, you say? Josh Sweat is arguably the best pass rusher still on the board, but he could be long gone by the time the Packers next pick.

Packers to trade up?

With eight picks, one has to assume Gutekunst will be on the phone attempting to make some moves. If there’s a player he particularly likes, he could look to make a deal.

The Packers own the first selection of the fifth round. That could interest another team looking to acquire more picks.

Packers have eight picks on Day 3

Here’s a full list of Green Bay’s remaining picks on Day 3:

  • Round 4, Pick 33 (133 overall) — Compensatory selection
  • Round 5, Pick 1 (138)
  • Round 5, Pick 35 (172) — Compensatory selection
  • Round 5, Pick 37 (174) — Compensatory selection
  • Round 6, Pick 33 (207) — Compensatory selection
  • Round 7, Pick 14 (232)
  • Round 7, Pick 21 (239)
  • Round 7, Pick 30 (248)

Remember, compensatory picks can be traded. All eight of those selections could be used to jump up in the draft.

Next: Grade, instant reaction to Josh Jackson pick

The fun of the draft is far from over. First Green Bay has (potentially) eight picks to make, and that is before we even mention undrafted free agency.
