Packers 53-man roster predictions following 2018 NFL Draft
Safeties (4)
Safeties: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Josh Jones, Kentrell Brice, Marwin Evans
The Packers have a talented young group of safeties, now led by Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. Clinton-Dix and second-year Josh Jones will enter the season as the team’s starters after Morgan Burnett departed in free agency.
Last season was arguably Clinton-Dix’s worst in Green Bay, but it’s important not to forget how good he has been in the past. The 25-year-old made the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2014, and was both a Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro in 2016.
With Burnett gone, Jones and Kentrell Brice will see an increased role, as noted by Jason Wilde of the State Journal last month:
"“The Packers also like Kentrell Brice as another option to replace Burnett, and they could use Brice as one of the safeties who plays back alongside Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in the nickel and dime packages and use Jones in a hybrid linebacker role like the one he and Burnett played last season.”"
Between Clinton-Dix, Jones, Brice and Marwin Evans, the Packers are set at the safety position. One has to assume Jones’ selection in the second-round of last year’s draft came with one eye on 2018. Burnett only had one year remaining on his contract, and they ensured they were prepared for his eventual departure.
