Packers: 4 possible veteran departures this summer
Quinten Rollins, CB
Cap hit in 2018: $1.19 million ($245,000 in dead cap)
In the 2015 draft, the Packers clearly wanted to address their secondary when they selected Damarious Randall in the first round to play cornerback, then Quinten Rollins in the second round to also play cornerback.
Three years later, the Packers are still looking for answers in their secondary, as they have ranked among the worst in the league on an annual basis. This led to the Packers taking the same approach in the 2018 draft, addressing the cornerback position in the opening two rounds, grabbing two of the top five corners in the draft. They also selected a cornerback with their first pick in the 2017 draft, Kevin King.
With the recent early round picks being spent on cornerbacks, the reunion of Tramon Williams and Davon House coming back to Green Bay, and some competition coming from a few UDFA players, the cornerback room has become pretty crowded, and Rollins may just be the odd man out.
Rollins, a four-year basketball player at the University of Miami (OH), played one season of college football, putting up an impressive 72 tackles, seven INTs and nine PBUs. The limited experience at the college level has led to Rollins finding it difficult to adjust to the NFL game, on top of being plagued by many different injuries in his first three seasons.
With Kevin King, Tramon Williams, Jaire Alexander, and Josh Jackson all safely ahead of Rollins in the pecking order, that leaves a battle between Rollins, Davon House, Lenzy Pipkins, Josh Hawkins, Donatello Brown, Demetri Goodson, Herb Waters, and the recently acquired UDFA cornerbacks for the final few spots at cornerback on the roster.
As of right now, I believe Pipkins, House, Hawkins, and Brown all have Rollins beat out for a roster spot, especially considering how Rollins does not fit the physical type of corner Pettine looks for on defense. Pipkins, House and Brown do fit that mold.
