Green Bay Packers game-by-game predictions for 2018 season
Week 6: vs. San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers are going to be an interesting matchup. To start 2017 season, they started out 0-9 and were fighting the Browns for the number one pick.
General manager John Lynch then made a trade for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. After the trade, the 49ers finished 6-10 on a five-game win streak with Garoppolo as the starter. The trade will, arguably, go down as one of the best trades a team has ever made.
Signing Garoppolo to an extension was the biggest offseason transaction for the 49ers. They also added cornerback Richard Sherman to help on defense, along with running back Jerrick McKinnon to replace Carlos Hyde.
At this point in the season, this could be a preview of a playoff matchup. The 49ers need to build off of their momentum from last season. They might also need to find a replacement for linebacker Reuben Foster, depending on the outcome of his legal trouble.
The Packers, on the other hand, will need to continue to build their rapport with each other. By this time, Rodgers and Jimmy Graham will be in-sync with the defense settled in.
This game is billed as a must-win. The Packers are heading into the bye week with four out of the next five away from Lambeau.
Prediction: Packers 21, 49ers 17 (5-1)
