Five reasons why Green Bay Packers will win NFC North in 2018
4. Red zone offense
Aaron Rodgers is dominant in the red zone. In 2016, he threw a league-high 33 touchdowns inside the 20-yard line, as well as an NFL-best 25 inside the 10, according to Pro Football Reference. How many interceptions did he have in the red zone? Zero. Not one.
Now look at the players he has to throw to in the red zone. As Ben Fennell of NFL Network pointed out on Twitter, Davante Adams and Jimmy Graham have a combined 28 red zone touchdowns over the past two seasons.
Adams and Graham are two of the league’s top red zone targets, and they now play on the same team.
General manager Brian Gutekunst has added some big targets this offseason. Rookie wide receivers Equanimeous St. Brown (6-foot-5), Marquez Valdes-Scantling (6-foot-4) and J’Mon Moore (6-foot-3) could all see plenty of targets inside the 20-yard line.
The Packers have also signed tight end Marcedes Lewis, giving the Packers another 6-foot-6 target. Lewis had five touchdowns with the Jaguars last season.
Rodgers is highly efficient in the red zone. Now the Packers have an embarrassment of riches inside the 20. It could be almost impossible to stop them in the red zone this year.
