Packers: Three questions facing Ty Montgomery in 2018
The three biggest questions for Green Bay Packers running back Ty Montgomery ahead of the 2018 season.
A third-round pick in 2015, Ty Montgomery has had an interesting career with the Green Bay Packers so far. Initially considered a return man, Montgomery showed his potential as a wide receiver in his rookie season, before transitioning to running back in 2016.
Montgomery’s unique skill set makes him tough to defend at a number of positions. He can catch passes. He can run between the tackles. When healthy, he’s a mismatch for defenses, and a key piece of Green Bay’s offense. That much was clear late in the 2016 season when the Packers “ran the table”. Montgomery was a big reason why. That year, he averaged an impressive 5.9 yards per carry.
But what’s next for Montgomery, and what are the biggest questions for the 25-year-old entering arguably the most important season of his career so far? Despite all of his talent, he’s never had more than 457 rushing yards or 348 receiving yards in a season. And he’s never found the end zone more than four times in a single year. Is this the year we have to see Montgomery’s potential turn into production?
Here are the three biggest questions facing Montgomery as we move closer to the beginning of the 2018 season. It starts with staying on the field.
