Safeties: B

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix leads the way at safety for the Packers. He is entering his fifth season with the team, and also a contract year. This is a big season for Clinton-Dix, especially now that Morgan Burnett has departed, signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency.

From a fan’s perspective, it sure looks like the Packers didn’t make a huge effort to re-sign Burnett, perhaps showing confidence in the young safeties on the roster.

Clinton-Dix didn’t play as well as many expected last year, but he’s only two seasons removed from a Pro Bowl appearance and All-Pro selection, so he can just as quickly bounce back, especially with Mike Pettine taking over as defensive coordinator.

Second-year Josh Jones will compete for a starting job alongside Clinton-Dix, but he’ll have competition from Kentrell Brice. Jones has a ton of potential, and will be expected to take the next step in his second season.

Outside of Clinton-Dix, the Packers don’t have a whole lot of experience at the safety position. But Tramon Williams’ return at corner ensures there is some experience in the defensive backfield.

Green Bay has a talented, young group of safeties. We’ll soon see how they play without Morgan Burnett.
