Inside linebacker was a major weakness on defense for a number of years, but Blake Martinez went a long way to fixing that last season. Martinez was tied for the league-lead in tackles with 144.

Martinez is one of the team’s most important players in the middle of the defense, and that will continue with Mike Pettine taking over as defensive coordinator.

Joe Kipp of Dairyland Express believes Martinez has the talent to take a big step in his third season:

"“Martinez isn’t a perfect player, but he has the tools and technical ability to be great. He’s improved each year he’s been in the league and is set to take over as one of the unquestioned leaders on defense. Not to mention year three is the typical time when players emerge as breakout stars.”"

Martinez is a player to watch at training camp and into the new season.

The Packers will be hoping for more from Jake Ryan this year. The fourth-year player is entering the final season on his rookie contract. He’ll be a free agent next spring.

Green Bay used its third-round pick in April’s draft on Oren Burks. Burks will bring versatility to the position, and could fit right in and play well as a rookie.
