Packers all-time scrimmage: Team Brett Favre vs. Team Aaron Rodgers
By Nick Olig
Which quarterback had the better supporting cast during their time with the Green Bay Packers: Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers?
Since the Green Bay Packers won’t play another team until their first preseason game on August 9, their only “opponent” now is themselves. They’ll practice and compete against each other for much of the warm Wisconsin summer.
While scrimmages matter a great deal to player development and chemistry, they’re not really designed to spark the imagination. It’s more fun to think of what a Packers matchup between Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers and all their respective teammates would look like.
Both quarterbacks, one a Hall-of-Famer and the other a future Hall-of-Famer who was his successor, were surrounded with talent by a first-rate organization. Favre probably couldn’t have won a ring without Reggie White signing as a free agent to strengthen the defense, but the same could be said about Rodgers and Charles Woodson. But if we dug a lot deeper than that, could we find that one of the two franchise quarterbacks decidedly played with a stronger supporting cast? Let’s find out.
*Note: In the case of players who were teammates of both QBs, we’ll give the nod to more seasons played together. For instance, Donald Driver was Favre’s teammate for nine seasons, and Rodgers’ teammate for five. Therefore, Double D is on Team Favre.
Only career numbers in Green Bay are reflected, unless otherwise noted.
