5. Depth and talent at running back

We don’t know who will start at running back for the Packers this season, which highlights the talent they have at the position. Aaron Jones’ two-game suspension aside, Green Bay has three backs who each bring a different skill set to the team. And all three have thrived as the featured back when given an opportunity.

Ty Montgomery can do it all. He can run between the tackles and convert on short-yardage situations. But what makes him such a difficult player to defend is his receiving ability. Montgomery was drafted by the Packers as a wide receiver, and defenses are forced to respect his ability to catch passes.

Jamaal Williams is a powerful back who gets better as the game goes on and opposing defenses tire. He’s the Packers’ best back in short-yardage situations. When Aaron Rodgers got injured, they needed a running back who could put the offense on his back. Williams did just that time and again, and he even added 262 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Aaron Jones won’t be available until Week 3, but he’s possibly the most exciting of the three running backs. Jones is fast, explosive and exciting to watch. He regularly hit big runs last season, and we haven’t seen the best of his receiving talent yet.

If all three can stay healthy, the Packers will have a very exciting backfield in 2018.
