Honorable mentions

Kyle Fuller (Chicago Bears): Fuller was a breakout star last year and I believe he will continue to help the Bears defense tremendously. I would like to see him improve in forcing turnovers, although it can be a good sign if cornerbacks don’t get those opportunities.

Jason Verrett (Los Angeles Chargers): Verrett has struggled to stay healthy, but I expect him to be one of the best cornerbacks in football if he stays on the field this year.

Josh Norman (Washington Redskins): Norman is one of the best zone cornerbacks in football. I don’t think he will ever recapture the greatness that he had on the 2015 Panthers, but even if he can be 85 percent of what he was that year, he will continue to be one of the game’s best cornerbacks. Hopefully the defense around him will be improved this season.

Janoris Jenkins (New York Giants): Janoris “Jackrabbit” Jenkins is a very fun player to watch. The Giants’ defense was a complete letdown last year, but I have a bit more optimism for them this season. He will have to play like St. Louis Rams Janoris Jenkins if the Giants want a consistently reliable defense.

Tre’Davious White (Buffalo Bills): White was a rookie sensation, and was a key reason why the Bills had one of the most improved secondaries last season. He could have won rookie of the year if it wasn’t for someone by the name of Marshon Lattimore.
