Packers 53-man roster predictions after first week of training camp
Quarterbacks (2)
How great is it to see Aaron Rodgers fully healthy at training camp?
It felt like a long season while he was out injured, and an even longer offseason. But here we are, just over a month away from the start of the regular season, and Rodgers is ready to go.
The real story here begins at the backup spot. A week into training camp, we’re none the wiser as to who will take the number two spot behind Rodgers.
I’ve thought Kizer would win the job all offseason, and so far nothing has changed that. While Kizer didn’t have an ideal rookie season with the Browns — with just 11 touchdown passes and a league-high 22 interceptions to his name — the Packers traded for him based on his potential.
Kizer was put in a tough position last year, starting at quarterback as a rookie for a bad football team. Sacked 38 times, the team around Kizer certainly didn’t help him.
With Brett Hundley, the Packers know what they have. Last season Hundley was given his first true test in the NFL, and while he did help the team win three games and played well at times, he didn’t meet expectations.
Just 22 years old, Kizer is entering his second season in the league, and the Packers gave up a starting cornerback to bring him to Green Bay. It’s his job to lose.
