Predictions: Lombardi Ave staff predicts Packers win

This game begins an important two-game stretch for the Packers. Yes, it’s only the opening two weeks of the season. But Green Bay faces two divisional opponents in Chicago and Minnesota. Both teams could be in playoff contention this season. And both games are at home.

The Packers need to get off to a good start. It might be a little strong to say these are must-win games, but considering the opponents and venue, they very well could be.

This Bears team won’t be like what we’ve seen in recent years. General manager Ryan Pace has made some very strong offseason moves.

On offense, Chicago signed wide receiver Allen Robinson, a Pro Bowler in 2015. They also added tight end Trey Burton, who caught five touchdowns a year ago on the Super Bowl-winning Eagles. And that was as the number two tight end behind Zach Ertz. He comes to Chicago with high expectations as their new top tight end.

The Bears upgraded their defense, too, selecting linebacker Roquan Smith in the first round of April’s draft, and then trading for two-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler Khalil Mack just a week ago. It’s rare to see an elite edge rusher like Mack switch teams in a trade.

It sure seems like the Bears are all in for 2018. Much will depend on second-year quarterback Mitch Trubisky.
