Packers: Lombardi Ave staff predict Week 3 game vs. Washington
The Lombardi Ave staff have made their predictions for the Green Bay Packers’ Week 3 contest with the Washington Redskins.
Still undefeated after two weeks, the Green Bay Packers are on the road against the Washington Redskins on Sunday afternoon.
Last week we were all wrong in our predictions. Four writers picked Minnesota to win, two Green Bay. Of course, the game ended in a tie.
We’re all confident of a victory this week.
Tanner Nestle: The Packers offense is quietly one of the best in the league, as long as Aaron Rodgers is on the field. Being able to put up points on Chicago and Minnesota is impressive. Washington is a much weaker team all around.
With Aaron Jones back in the mix, there should be less pressure on Rodgers. And the defense has its easiest matchup yet. I don’t think this will be much of a contest. Green Bay 31, Washington 13
Nile McNair: Week 3 presents Green Bay with its first road game of the season. However, expect the Packers to come out motivated after being unable to pull out the win versus the Vikings.
The defense will have to be disciplined versus a quarterback in Alex Smith who doesn’t really turn the ball over. Green Bay must also stop an old enemy in Adrian Peterson from successfully running the ball if they want to win. Expect the offense to finish their drives with touchdowns instead of field goals this week. Green Bay 28, Washington 17
Paul Bretl: The Packers offense will look to have a more balanced attack than last week. They’ll want to attack the weak Redskins secondary while spreading around carries for Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery to help protect Rodgers.
Defensively they’ll have to make sure to to cover RB Chris Thompson and TE Jordan Reed, Alex Smith’s favorite targets. I anticipate the Redskins will struggle to move the ball. Green Bay 24, Washington 10
Tyler Grzegorek: A seemingly unhampered Aaron Rodgers will general his offense to a big day. Defensively, the Packers match up well with the dink and dunk offensive style of Washington. Green Bay 27, Washington 20
Keegan Jackish: The Packers’ Week 3 matchup against Washington looks easier on paper compared to their first two games, but this game will still be very competitive. Aaron Rodgers will be under far less pressure (compared to Weeks 1 and 2) in this game, and that should ultimately give the Packers the upper hand in this game.
The young secondary will also not face quite as many challenges in the passing game this week compared to what they dealt with against Minnesota last week. Green Bay 27, Washington 20
Kyle Lohmiller: This will be the week that the Packers will try to establish the run game. Josh Norman will be covering Davante Adams, but the Washington defense won’t be able to stop Randall Cobb, Geronimo Allison, and Jimmy Graham.
There were 20,000 empty seats in Washington’s home opener last week, so be prepared to hear some “Go Pack Go!” by the end of the game. Green Bay 34, Washington 23
Jesse Fry: After a tough tie, the Packers will rebound in a big way. Yes, the Redskins are currently ranked #1 on defense but they have yet to play a team the caliber of the Packers. It won’t be easy though. Alex Smith is a tough veteran quarterback and won’t make bad decisions. I see a game in which the Packers finally put it all together. Green Bay 24, Washington 14
John Dales: The Packers are coming off a Week 2 tie against the Vikings which left much to be desired, from the standpoint of the fans and the players. However, I think we all believe that the Packers have played well enough to be 2-0 right now.
Through two weeks, their offense has been clicking, and is one of the top in the league in my opinion. As for the Redskins, their Week 1 victory over the Cardinals looked much less impressive last week when they lost big against the Colts. Also, the Cardinals got beaten badly again, this time by the Rams.
I think the Packers take this one with Mike Pettine’s defense taking a step forward. Green Bay 35, Washington 17
Nick Olig: With their most explosive running back Aaron Jones set to make his season debut, we should see a fired-up road squad commit to the ground attack early, which will lead to completing play-action passes for big chunks of yardage. Against a less potent offense, the D will bounce back from Week 2’s drama and strife, which means I’m predicting demolition. Green Bay 31, Washington 6
Freddie Boston: As long as Aaron Rodgers is protected, the Packers will be able to score points, no matter how talented Washington’s defense is. Green Bay’s new-look secondary has been impressive over two games, and will come up with a key turnover to secure the victory. Green Bay 27, Washington 20
