Mason Crosby missed five kicks as the Green Bay Packers lost to the Detroit Lions in Week 5.

It was a nightmare game for the Packers‘ longtime kicker, who missed four field goals and an extra point try, key moments in the loss at Detroit.

As we’ve seen far too often this season, the Packers started slowly.

The first half couldn’t have gone much worse for Mike McCarthy’s team.

Mistakes on special teams, including three missed field goals for Mason Crosby in the first half, led to 24-0 deficit at the end of the second quarter.

Despite a much stronger performance on both sides of the ball in the second half, it was too little, too late.

It took a while for the offense to get going, which isn’t surprising as the team was without Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison due to injury.

Davante Adams finished with nine catches for 140 yards and a touchdown.

Fifth-round pick Marquez Valdes-Scantling had a good game, catching seven passes for 68 yards and a touchdown. He fell just short of another score.

But despite posting 521 total yards compared to the Lions’ 264, the Packers lost by eight points. And that falls on the special teams mistakes, particularly in the first half.

With this loss, the Packers’ second in three weeks, they fall to 2-2-1 on the season. This keeps them in second place of the NFC North behind the 3-1 Chicago Bears, who are on bye this week.

It was a season-saving victory for the Lions, who are now 2-3. A loss would have all but ended their playoff hopes.

Green Bay has eight days to get back on track ahead of a Monday Night Football showdown with the San Francisco 49ers next week.

The Minnesota Vikings (1-2-1) play at Philadelphia on Sunday.
