Aaron Rodgers’ heroics leads Packers over upstart 49ers
By Evan Siegel
Another 425 yards and two touchdowns later, Aaron Rodgers saved the Green Bay Packers once again from another humiliating loss.
The best quarterback in football is at it again, folks. Aaron Rodgers led his team nearly the length of the field to kick a game-winning field goal to send the Packers into their bye week with their third win.
The Packer defense was again awful in the first half, but stingy in the second half. The unit allowed 24 first half points to C.J. Beathard of all quarterbacks, but only six in the second half.
The pass rush was still largely absent from the opening kickoff, but the secondary tightened up somewhat to give the team another chance in the fourth quarter.
Aaron Rodgers took the Pack into the end zone on a gorgeous back-shoulder throw to Davante Adams in the corner of the end zone to tie the game at 30, and after a defensive stop, somehow took the Packers all the way down the field in part due to a 21-yard run and perfect back-shoulder throw to rookie Equanimeous St. Brown to put the Packers in field goal range.
Going forward, the Packers have themselves two weeks to prepare for the undefeated Los Angeles Rams. Jared Goff, Todd Gurley, and Brandin Cooks pose quite a different challenge for the Packers then C.J. Beathard and the 49ers.
The Packers will have to be better on defense from start to finish and finally get their defense to rise to the challenge in the first half of games.
Green Bay is yet to defeat an elite team this season. They sneaked by the Chicago Bears due to Rodgers’ heroics, defeated the hapless Buffalo Bills and just defeated the one-win 49ers.
The Rams are their best chance yet to deliver a message to the rest of the NFC.
