Packers: Mason Crosby kicks Green Bay to victory in Week 6
The Green Bay Packers left it late, but they got back on track in Week 6.
You couldn’t have written a better ending for Mason Crosby following last week’s performance against the Detroit Lions.
After missing five kicks in the Green Bay Packers‘ embarrassing defeat just eight days earlier, Crosby was perfect against the San Francisco 49ers, and his game-winning 27-yard field goal not only gave his team victory, but potentially saved the Packers’ season.
For a while it looked like the Packers weren’t going to make the comeback.
The offense couldn’t move the chains on third down. They continued to get in their own way. A familiar theme.
The defense was dominated for the majority of the game by a backup quarterback.
But when it mattered most, the defense made the big play. Kevin King‘s interception set up the game-winning drive.
And with a chance to win the game, Aaron Rodgers led the offense down the field to set up Crosby’s winning kick.
With this victory, the Packers improve to 3-2-1 and now have a week off. They need it. This was a game many expected them to win comfortably.
All that matters is they found a way to win. Mike McCarthy now has two weeks to get his team prepared for a tough schedule that awaits, beginning with a road game against the currently undefeated Los Angeles Rams.
The Packers defense can’t play like they did tonight in that game. They’ll hope to have first-round pick Jaire Alexander back by then after missing the past two games due to injury.
But now isn’t the time to look ahead to the Rams. There will be plenty of time for that.
Right now, enjoy this victory. The Pack have given us a roller coaster ride for the first six weeks of the season.
Here’s the good news: the NFC North is wide open. The Bears are 3-2. The Vikings 3-2-1. The Lions 2-3.
The Packers are right there at 3-2-1. And now they begin a much-needed bye.
