Packers-49ers three takeaways: Mason Crosby delivers
3. Mason Crosby is the hero this week
It must have felt like one of the longest weeks of Mason Crosby’s career. After missing five kicks against the Detroit Lions in Week 5, Crosby proved why he’s one of the league’s best kickers against San Francisco. He made sure last week’s performance was just an anomaly.
Crosby was perfect all night long, converting all four field goal attempts and three extra points.
While everyone will talk about the game-winning field goal as time expired, don’t forget about the extra point moments earlier to tie the game. Had he missed, the Packers would have been down by one point with no timeouts remaining, and would have needed a successful onside kick to keep the game alive.
But Crosby made it look easy, just as he has all season, with that one exception in Detroit.
The Packers were right behind Crosby after last week’s game. He’s earned the trust of the coaching staff and his teammates over the years, and he was able to put one bad game behind him and get back on track here.
Crosby was one of about a million problems against the Lions, but he was the hero against the 49ers. And he might have just saved his team’s season.
