The bye week has arrived at the perfect time for the Green Bay Packers.

Three victories, two losses and a tie into their 100th season, the Green Bay Packers need a week off ahead of the toughest part of their schedule.

Despite recovering to get the win over the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night, this team has a lot of work to do to make a serious challenge in the NFC.

Six weeks into the season, we’re yet to see a complete performance from Mike McCarthy’s team.

In Week 1, Aaron Rodgers led a miracle comeback against the Bears. But both the offense and defense struggled in the first half.

The Packers had the game in the bag Week 2 against the Vikings, but the defense fell apart late and they were eventually lucky to finish with a tie.

Awful first-half performances at Washington and Detroit forced the Packers to play catchup in the second half. In both games, it was all too little, too late.

A shutout victory over the Buffalo Bills showed how good the defense can be when everything comes together (and they play a struggling offense), but the Packers offense couldn’t get out of first gear.

And finally, in their third victory of the season in Week 6, the Packers had to survive against a 1-4 49ers team playing with a backup quarterback. At home.

Now, it’s important not to be too negative. There have been plenty of positives to take away from the first six games.

Let’s not forget Aaron Rodgers has been playing hurt. He now has two weeks to get healthy.

Jaire Alexander was putting together a great rookie season before he got hurt. He could be back in Week 8. Aaron Jones looks like a superstar (when Mike McCarthy gives him the football). In recent weeks, Marquez Valdes-Scantling has made a number of big plays.

At times, the defense has looked much improved. There’s clearly still a lot of work to do, but the secondary is better than it has been in recent years.

But despite the positives, the Packers have been far too inconsistent in all three phases. Their 3-2-1 record matches their up-and-down start to 2018.

Fortunately, the Chicago Bears (3-2) and Minnesota Vikings (3-2-1) have also been inconsistent.

A tough five-game stretch awaits the Packers after the bye. Now is the perfect time for a week off. They have a chance to get healthy and make necessary adjustments on both sides of the ball.
