Packers: Top five performers in Week 6 win vs. 49ers
By Jesse Fry
3. Jimmy Graham
Davante Adams wasn’t the only receiver with a big night. Tight end jimmy Graham also chipped in with over 100 yards receiving. Graham’s 104 yards on five catches was second most on the team. His 54-yard catch-and-run proved he still has more to give.
Graham and Rodgers don’t appear to be on the same page all the time. It was this type of confusion that led to Rodgers having to pump fake a few times before finally hitting Graham for a first down late in the third quarter.
But both continue to try to make it work and are producing despite the lack of connection. Rodgers seems to be more willing to fit the ball into tight windows to Graham lately. The trust is building, but isn’t quite there yet.
The Packers still haven’t quite figured out how to effectively use Graham in the red zone either. In fact, the entire offensive unit has lacked the type of efficiency expected. There haven’t been many jump balls thrown to Graham inside the 20, allowing him to use his size to out jump/muscle a defender.
If the team can better use Graham inside the 20, I feel the problems in the red zone will lessen.
Graham, like Adams, is stacking good performances. This offense isn’t hitting on all cylinders yet. But now more than previous weeks, it feels like they are getting close.
