5. Kevin King

It would be easy to put Aaron Rodgers in this or any spot. Rodgers was the catalyst in the comeback win after all. But I pass on putting him in here simply because I don’t know what else to say about the way he’s played.

Despite the gimpy left knee, Rodgers still put up well over 400 yards and two touchdowns. He still led the Packers down the field in just over a minute for the game-winner when it looked like overtime.

But that may not have happened if not for a Kevin King interception. The first of his career I might add.

With the game tied and the 49ers at midfield, they chose to be aggressive on a third-and-three. Quarterback C.J. Beathard faced pressure from Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and launched the ball down the field towards Marquise Goodwin. Goodwin torched the Packers defense all day long, but this pass was under thrown.

King, in good position on the play, turned around right in time to see the ball and haul in the interception. What stands out is that nine out of 10 times this play ends in a pass interference.

With an under thrown pass and the receiver coming back for the ball, defensive backs usually don’t get their heads around in time and get called for the defensive PI. Not this time. King was able to turn around, get his hands on the ball and finish the catch. And 81 yards, one minute and seven seconds later, a Packers victory.

The defense has many issues to work out. The Jekyll and Hyde act between the first and second halves needs to end.

But if this play had gone the other way, we would be talking about the Packers going 2-3-1 into their bye and a tough stretch ahead. For now, the Packers can enjoy this victory, get the team healthy and get ready for a difficult five weeks.
