Packers: Fantasy football buy/sell during bye week
Which Green Bay Packers should you buy and sell in fantasy football during their bye week?
Bye weeks are beginning to play a role in fantasy football, making lineup decisions much tougher. With the Green Bay Packers on bye, there are a few players to target in trades and others you can move on from.
If a team in your league needs a win this week, they might be more likely to sell a player like Davante Adams, who is on bye, for a cheaper price than it would normally cost. Look around your league and see if the team with Adams or Aaron Rodgers is 1-5 and needs a win now.
If not, here are some names to buy/sell during the Packers’ bye:
Buy
Aaron Jones: Fantasy owners (and Packers fans) have been frustrated by how Mike McCarthy has been using Jones so far this year. It’s clear he’s the team’s most efficient runner, but he has been part of a running back-by-committee since returning from suspension in Week 3.
But there’s still hope, and it’s possible you’ll be able to buy low. Jones can’t be added to starting lineups until he’s given a bigger workload, but in the meantime, it’s possible he’ll be available on the cheap.
Why should we have confidence he’ll get more carries moving forward?
Well, we don’t. But the Packers have to do something to find more consistency on offense, and when reflecting on the first six games during the bye, it’s entirely possible McCarthy realizes what the rest of us having been saying for weeks.
On 32 carries this year, Jones is averaging 5.9 yards. Compare that to Jamaal Williams‘ 3.8 yards per carry from 59 attempts.
Williams only has 36 rushing yards more than Jones, despite playing in two mores games and carrying the ball almost twice as many times.
Jones’ fantasy stock is low. He could even be available on your waiver wire.
If Jones is finally given the keys to the Packers’ backfield, he can be a league-winner in fantasy.
Jimmy Graham: So far this season, Graham has been a solid tight end for fantasy, but not much more.
He’s yet to get on the same page as Aaron Rodgers all the time, and he only has one touchdown catch in six games.
But that could all change. Graham has 349 receiving yards, second-most on the team. And he’s bound to find end zone more frequently following the bye. We’re talking about a tight end here that has posted double-digit touchdowns four times in his career, including last season.
The Packers as a team have struggled in the red zone, which is out of character. I expect that to change following the bye.
And as the Packers get better in the red zone, so does Graham.
Geronimo Allison: Allison is owned in less than 40 percent of leagues, according to Mike Tagliere of FantasyPros. That’s way too low.
I get it. It’s difficult to keep everyone, particularly when a player on your bench is injured and you need someone to fill in for a bye week.
But now is the time to pick up Allison. He has no less than 64 receiving yards in each game he’s played this year, and he’s found the end zone twice. Allison also has 27 targets this season with at least five receptions in three of his four games.
He’s an important part of this offense, and should be back from injury in Week 8.
Sell
Marquez Valdes-Scantling: With Allison and Randall Cobb likely back from injury next week, Valdes-Scantling’s value drops. He has been impressive when on the field. After putting up 103 receiving yards last week against the 49ers, it’s possible you could get something back in a trade.
He might have earned a slightly bigger role in Green Bay’s offense, but it’s unlikely he gets enough targets to be a weekly starter with Allison and Cobb healthy.
Jamaal Williams/Ty Montgomery: The chances are both Williams and Montgomery are unowned in your league. And it should stay that way.
Right now, none of the Packers’ top three running backs can be started. But if one of them is going to breakout, it’s likely to be Aaron Jones.
Williams has been inefficient and Montgomery hasn’t had enough of the ball to become a productive fantasy player. If you start either player you’re hoping for a touchdown.
It’s almost impossible you’ll be able to sell either player, but it’s safe to drop them to the waiver wire if you haven’t already.
