Packers remain in second place of NFC North after bye week
After the bye week, the Green Bay Packers are still in second place of the NFC North.
The NFC North couldn’t be any closer. After seven weeks, no team has more than four wins, but no team has less than three.
The Green Bay Packers remain in second place despite not playing in Week 7, but the teams moved around them.
The Chicago Bears entered the weekend in first place, but a 38-31 loss to the New England Patriots, their second straight, puts them fourth. That’s how close the division is.
Chicago has a 3-3 record after seven weeks, the same as the Detroit Lions, who won a second straight against the Miami Dolphins.
There is a new division leader in the NFC North, the defending-champion Minnesota Vikings.
After a slow start, Minnesota has now won three straight following Sunday’s 37-17 victory on the road against the New York Jets. The Vikings are now 4-2-1.
The Vikings will be the favorites at this stage, but they enter an important four-game stretch of their season.
It begins at home to the New Orleans Saints next Sunday night, a tough test against a Saints team that has now won five straight.
Following that Sunday Night Football showdown, the Vikings play the entire division in consecutive games, the Lions and Packers at home with the Bears on the road and a bye week in between.
All four teams are in playoff contention, and the next month will be key in determining which teams are real contenders this year.
The Packers enter a tough five-game stretch, with games against the Rams, Patriots and Vikings, all on the road, coming up. If they can put together a few victories in this stretch, Green Bay will be well positioned for the final month of the season.
The NFC North is no longer dominated by the Packers. This could be the most competitive this division has been in years.
