Packers move up in NFL Spin Zone power rankings for Week 8
The Green Bay Packers have moved up to No. 11 in the NFL Spin Zone power rankings ahead of Week 8.
The Packers have had a week off to get ready for a tough five-week stretch. During this run, we’ll learn a lot about this team.
Are they real contenders in the NFC? Or are they a team with an elite quarterback but not consistent enough?
Ahead of a key midseason run of games, the Packers have moved up four positions in the latest NFL Spin Zone power rankings. They are up to No. 11 after being ranked at No. 15 a week ago.
Here’s what Randy Gurzi had to say about the Packers:
"“Green Bay is so dependent on Rodgers that it’s hard to buy them as favorites in the NFC. Then again, Rodgers is so good it’s hard to count them out. Just imagine how unstoppable they could be if they did put a better team around him, especially on defense. At least they have this Bye Week to try and figure some stuff out.”"
It sure feels like the bye week came at the perfect time.
The Packers will be hoping the week off allowed Aaron Rodgers to get closer to 100 percent. He’s been playing through a knee injury since the season opener against the Bears.
Wide receivers Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison have both missed multiple games, as well as rookie cornerback Jaire Alexander. Green Bay could get all three back in Week 8.
Just as important as getting healthy is making adjustments. Head coach Mike McCarthy has had an opportunity to review the team’s opening six games and make changes.
The Packers can’t afford to continue starting games slow and getting behind.
They scored points on their opening drive for the first time all season against San Francisco in Week 6, but the defense struggled during the first half.
To have any chance of defeating the LA Rams or New England Patriots, Green Bay will need to put together a complete performance on offense and hope the defense can do just enough to win the game.
This is an important month-and-a-half for the Packers.
Win the next two and they might enter Week 10 at the top of the NFL Spin Zone power rankings.
