Packers-Rams three takeaways: Defense deserves better
3. Aaron Jones, MVS continue to deliver
Another week, another excellent performance by second-year running back Aaron Jones. He led the team in carries with 12, putting up 86 yards (7.2 yards per carry) with a 33-yard touchdown run.
Yes, Jones had the most carries on the team, but he should be carrying the football more than 12 times. Every time he’s on the field the Packers look better. This was a step in the right direction, but Jones needs to be given a featured role.
Rookie wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling continues to impress and show why he deserves a bigger role on offense. MVS caught a 40-yard touchdown pass to give the Packers a one-point lead in the fourth quarter.
MVS has big-play potential, as we saw on Sunday, and he’s made the most of his opportunities so far this season. The more involved McCarthy can get the rookie pass catcher in this offense, the better.
Green Bay has the talent to be unstoppable on offense, but this team is yet to put together a complete performance. The Packers moved the ball well early in the game, and in the fourth quarter, but in between it was more of the same, inconsistent play we’ve seen all year.
Both Jones and MVS played well against the Rams and deserve more opportunities moving forward.
