The Green Bay Packers have reportedly traded safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to the Washington Redskins.

It was a busy trade deadline day for the Packers. First they reportedly traded away running back Ty Montgomery to the Baltimore Ravens for a 2020 seventh-round pick.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, they have now traded starting safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to the Washington Redskins.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network added that the Packers are receiving a 2019 fourth-round pick from Washington.

So there we go. Clinton-Dix was a player to watch on Tuesday ahead of the deadline, and general manager Brian Gutekunst has decided to make a deal.

Clinton-Dix was set to become a free agent at the end of the year, which could be part of the reason why the Packers wanted to trade him.

The safety position has been an issue this season. But without Clinton-Dix, a starter, the Packers are now left with Kentrell Brice, Jermaine Whitehead and Josh Jones. Last year’s starters, Clinton-Dix and Morgan Burnett, and now both no longer on the team.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Gutekunst will have a plan. So will defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.

Maybe that will involve signing a free agent, or possibly moving a player currently on the roster to safety. With depth at cornerback after signing Bashaud Breeland, the Packers could move Tramon Williams to safety.

With Clinton-Dix potentially leaving next spring anyway, Gutekunst may have felt it’s best to bring back a fourth-rounder in next year’s draft, rather than potentially receiving a lower compensatory pick in 2020.

One thing is for sure, Green Bay has plenty of draft picks to work with in next year’s draft.

What are your thoughts on the two trades Green Bay made on Tuesday?

Did Gutekunst make the right call to trade away both Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Ty Montgomery?
