Five Packers to Watch Versus the Patriots: No. 4 – Blake Martinez

The Patriots running game is hurting, Rex Burkhead and Jeremy Hill are on injured reserve.  Blossoming rookie Sony Michel has an injured knee and unsure of playing.  But, what the Patriots do have is James White.

More from Lombardi Ave

White is a shifty little back who is one of Brady’s favorite targets.  White not only lines up at running back but in the slot and out wide.

The Patriots will try to keep the same defense on the field with an up-tempo offense for them to get and keep favorable match-ups.

One player for the Packers who does not leave the field is Blake Martinez. Martinez’s main assignment will be limiting the damage White can do.

White is no Todd Gurley but, he does do everything right for the Patriots offense.

Few teams have had an answer for White so far this season. He is a force on third downs and despite his size gets many looks in the red zone.

Josh McDaniels and Brady will no doubt look to get White matched-up against Martinez in space.  In space is where White can use quickness to his advantage.  Martinez must continue to make sure tackles and limit White’s ability to break tackles and get to the next level of the defense.
