Packers in bottom half of NFL Spin Zone power rankings for Week 12
After their Week 11 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, the Green Bay Packers have dropped to No. 19 in the NFL Spin Zone power rankings.
The Packers have been a completely different team at home than on the road.
They remain undefeated at Lambeau Field, at 4-0-1, even when not at their best. But despite putting together three solid performances in a row on the road, they’ve been unable to close out games, and are now 0-5 away from Lambeau Field.
As a result, the Packers are at 4-5-1 and could be on the way to a second consecutive season without making the playoffs.
In the latest NFL Spin Zone power rankings by Randy Gurzi, the Packers have fallen six spots down to No. 19. Here’s what Gurzi wrote about Green Bay:
"“Much of the blame is falling on head coach Mike McCarthy, who made a few blunders in their latest loss. First was failing to get the ball to Jones more after he had his best game of the season the week prior. The second was wasting timeouts to where they had just one left with barely over four minutes to go.”"
And that’s very much been the story throughout the season. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Sunday that Mike McCarthy is on the hot seat, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the team decided to make a change at head coach in the offseason.
For McCarthy and the Packers, Sunday night’s game with the Vikings is a must-win. A loss would significantly decrease the team’s chances of securing a wild-card berth, and all but end their hopes of winning the NFC North, if the Bears defeat the Lions.
If the Packers can get through this game with a victory, they will have an opportunity. The schedule eases up after this week (with the one exception being a road game against Chicago).
Green Bay hosts Arizona (2-8), Atlanta (4-6) and Detroit (4-6), and visits the NY Jets (3-7).
All four can be considered winnable games for the Packers. But if they don’t win on Sunday night, it probably won’t matter.
Green Bay has a losing record entering Thanksgiving week, and as a result deserves to be in the bottom half of the NFL Spin Zone power rankings.
