Five players to watch for Packers Week 14 vs. Falcons
By Jesse Fry
5. Robert Tonyan
Should Graham not be able to hold up, the Packers must see if they have an internal option. Robert Tonyan is all they have waiting in the wings at the tight end position.
Marcedes Lewis and Lance Kendricks are veterans who will be free agents after the season and are not the long-term answers.
Should the Packers move on from Graham, it would be good to know they have player carryover.
Tonyan is a converted wide receiver with good speed for a tight end and size to hold up. He still is pretty raw when it comes to blocking, but the Packers shouldn’t use him in that way any way.
Tonyan would be best suited for the role the Packers had intended for Jimmy Graham, lining up out wide and in the slot. His blocking will come with time.
The Packers could use these next four games to help Aaron Rodgers and Tonyan develop a bond heading into next season.
Should Graham pan out, the Packers have a high-priced veteran they can pair with a low-cost young player.
If the Packers can employ two tight end formations with a run or pass threat, the possibilities become endless for who ever is calling plays next.
