Green Bay Packers, 2018 NFL Draft

2. A high draft pick, and two in the first-round

Losing isn’t fun. Well, until the NFL Draft begins. The only positive to take away from this season is that the Packers will have a high pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. It’s not too often the Packers own a top-10 pick, but that’s a possibility after this season.

And let’s not forget, Brian Gutekunst’s excellent work on draft-day last year means the team has two first-round selections in 2019. As the New Orleans Saints are closing in on a first-round bye, it’s unlikely the pick will be any higher than 27th overall. But that doesn’t matter, it’s a bonus selection.

The Packers currently own four picks inside the top 100 overall, according to Tankathon, which gives Gutekunst lots of flexibility, especially with two first-rounders to work with.

Could Gutekunst use the second first-round pick in a trade to move up inside the top five overall? Could he use the bonus first-rounder to trade down and acquire additional mid-round picks? If he doesn’t make any move, the Packers will pick twice on the opening night of the draft.

The Packers will have a number of picks to work with, two first-rounders, and their opening selection could be inside the top-10. They will be well positioned in the draft to strengthen the roster.
