Teams that can help Packers get a higher draft pick in Week 17
Teams that can help the Green Bay Packers get a higher draft pick in Week 17.
After last week’s win against the New York Jets, it’s unlikely the Green Bay Packers will enter the 2019 NFL Draft with a top-10 pick.
But how high they make their first selection next April will be determined in Week 17.
To get a higher pick, Green Bay would need to lose at home to the Detroit Lions and a few other results go the right way.
If the Packers lose on Sunday, these four teams can overtake them in the standings, which would then give Green Bay a higher draft position.
Teams that can overtake Green Bay in Week 17
All four of these teams enter Week 17 with a 6-9 record:
- Carolina Panthers (at Saints)
- Atlanta Falcons (at Buccaneers)
- Cincinnati Bengals (at Steelers)
- Denver Broncos (vs. Chargers)
If these teams all win and Green Bay loses, they’d improve to 7-9, just ahead of the Packers’ 6-9-1.
If the Packers do lose their game, the one consolation would be if the Panthers, Falcons, Bengals and Broncos all won. As things stand, the Packers own the 14th selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, according to Tankathon.
With a loss to Detroit and these four teams winning, Green Bay would move up to the 10th overall selection, making it the “best-case” scenario.
Teams that can win eighth game in Week 17
Let’s say the Packers get the win on Sunday. That’s great, but the only negative is that it could give the team a lower draft pick. That is, of course, unless these three teams also win:
- Miami Dolphins (at Bills)
- Washington Redskins (vs. Eagles)
- Cleveland Browns (at Ravens)
The lowest Green Bay will pick first is 17th overall. Philadelphia currently owns the 18th selection, but with an 8-7 record entering Week 17, the Eagles are out of reach.
But Green Bay can still overtake Miami, Washington and Cleveland in the standings, which is the “worst-case” scenario. Green Bay would win, but losses for these three teams would give the Packers the 17th selection.
On the opening night of the 2019 NFL Draft, Green Bay could make its first pick as high as 10th overall or as low as 17th. On Sunday we’ll find out exactly where they’ll be picking next April.
