Packers in bottom half of Week 17 NFL Spin Zone power rankings
The Green Bay Packers enter Week 17 at No. 17.
The Green Bay Packers continue to rise in the NFL Spin Zone power rankings, but they enter the season finale against the Detroit Lions at No. 17.
Last week’s overtime victory over the New York Jets was only good enough to move the Packers up one position in the rankings, but it’s fair to say being No. 17 after a disappointing season is about right.
To have a chance of moving into the top half of the power rankings following Week 17, the Packers will need to do something they’ve been unable to all season, and that’s win two games in a row. They’ll get that opportunity on Sunday afternoon against the Lions at Lambeau Field.
Here’s what Dan Parzych wrote about the Packers in the latest power rankings:
"“For the second year in a row, the Packers will be watching the playoffs from home, but when seeing how Aaron Rodgers put together another amazing performance against the Jets, one can only imagine his 2019 motivation.”"
The offense played some of its best football of the season last week against the Jets. If only they could’ve found a way to win a couple of close games such as against the Rams, Patriots and Seahawks.
If they managed to stay in playoff contention up to this point, they’d have a great opportunity to get in against a struggling Lions team at home this week. And with Aaron Rodgers playing like Aaron Rodgers, anything could’ve happened in the playoffs.

But it wasn’t to be. Instead, Green Bay’s focus will turn to a busy offseason once this game finishes. Mark Murphy will have to decide whether to offer Joe Philbin the head coach job permanently after he replaced Mike McCarthy for the final four games of the season.
That seems unlikely, but not impossible, especially if Green Bay goes 3-1 since Philbin took over.
For now, the focus is on the Detroit Lions. Can Green Bay close out 2018 on a positive note ahead of an important 2019 offseason?
