Aaron Rodgers injured as Packers lose season finale to Lions
The Green Bay Packers’ disappointing season is finally over.
It was a fitting end to the Green Bay Packers‘ season. They were shutout at home by the Detroit Lions, losing 31-0 in their final game of 2018.
More concerning for the Packers was that Aaron Rodgers left the game with a concussion. It was a surprising decision for Rodgers to play in the final two games, despite his excellent performance against the New York Jets last week.
DeShone Kizer took over at quarterback, and finished with 132 yards and no touchdowns and an interception. He also was the Packers’ leading rusher with four carries for 40 yards.
Jamaal Williams only had eight carries in the game for a total of four yards.
The Packers entered the game without Davante Adams, who was out with a knee injury. Rookie Marquez Valdes-Scantling led the team in receiving with three catches for 43 yards.
This result means the Packers were unable to win consecutive games all season and finish 6-9-1, good for third place in the NFC North.
The team has gone 2-2 since Joe Philbin took over as the interim head coach, and it’s unlikely he’ll take on the job permanently.
What’s next?
Considering how bad this season has been, the excitement begins now. The search for the next head coach continues, which will begin a new era in Green Bay.
It’s then on to building the roster for the next head coach throughout the offseason.
It’s going to be interesting to see the direction they go this offseason. Will Green Bay hire an offensive-mined coach like Josh McDaniels, or go defensive?
Will general manager Brian Gutekunst trade away one of the team’s first-round picks to move up?
The Packers have an opportunity to bounce back in 2019 if they can make the right decisions next spring.
Green Bay’s disappointing 2018 is officially over. The attention switches to a huge offseason.
