Packers: Ranking top 10 head coach candidates
By Evan Siegel
2. Josh McDaniels
There are few coaches in NFL history who have been in as high demand as Josh McDaniels. The two-time offensive coordinator of the Patriots has become among the most in-demand coordinators in recent memory. His availability is in perfect concert with the team’s desperate need for a competent offensive mind.
McDaniels also has first-hand experience working with elite quarterbacks. Tom Brady and McDaniels have had amazing success over the years together, and the Packers should see exactly how the Patriots have been able to extend Brady’s career.
While not much of a defensive mind, a team that finished with just six wins against teams quarterbacked by Mitchell Trubisky, Josh Allen, C.J. Beathard, Brock Osweiler, Matt Ryan and Sam Darnold clearly needs offense too.
1. Bruce Arians
Bruce Arians is the best unemployed coach in all of football. Known as one of the most fearless, aggressive coaches to ever roam the sidelines, his status as an NFL coach is fairly unquestionable.
While health appeared to deteriorate over the years for Arians, some time off appears to have done him well, as he is listening to overtures by several interested teams. The Arizona Cardinals are now on the clock in the NFL Draft only after losing Arians, and the Packers should do everything in their power to scoop him up.
Arians has one of the most diverse route trees in all of football, and would finally get the Packers offense into the 21st century. Too often the Packers have not had even competent coordinators running the show. Arians would change that in a heartbeat.
