Looking back at Aaron Jones’ excellent 2018 season.

Despite not being given as many carries as he deserved, Aaron Jones made the most of his opportunities and proved why he’s the Green Bay Packers‘ number one running back.

Jones set career-highs in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in 2018.

Let’s take a look back at his impressive season.

2018 season in review

After missing the first two games of the season due to suspension, Aaron Jones returned in Week 3 against Washington and made a fast start, averaging an impressive seven yards per carry.

But frustration mounted among the fan base as Mike McCarthy continued to rotate the running backs despite the fact Jones was clearly the most efficient.

Jones had just 11 carries in Week 4 against the Bills, rushing for 65 yards and a touchdown with 5.9 yards per carry. He would only have single-digit carries for the next two games, and would only have 15 or more carries in a game three times all season.

Jones continued to prove why he is the best running back on the team, finishing the year with a league-best 5.5 yards per carry. And despite missing four games and only having 133 carries on the season, Jones finished 23rd in the NFL for rushing yards with 728 and was tied for 11th in rushing touchdowns with eight.

Looking ahead to 2019 season

The Green Bay Packers offense is better with Jones on the field than without him, and he could see a much bigger role under new head coach Matt LaFleur.

Jamaal Williams showed he can still be an important part of the offense when given an opportunity late in the season with 253 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns against the Jets and Bears, but Jones should be the featured back entering 2019.

With more opportunities, Jones could hit the 1,000-yard rushing mark next season and also have a bigger role as a receiver. It will be interesting to see how LaFleur plans to use to the running backs.

Averaging 5.5 yards per carry in his career, the Packers need to find ways to get Jones the football. He’s made a number of big plays for this team over the past two years, and he could be set for his best season yet in 2019.
