Green Bay Packers free agency 2019: Top 5 needs to address
1. Edge rusher
Like safety, if the Packers are going to make a couple of big moves in free agency, edge rusher is a position they may look to do so. Again, it will all depend on which teams decide to use the franchise tag and which top edge rushers re-sign before free agency begins.
But currently there are a number of players that should interest the Packers.
DeMarcus Lawrence is possibly the best free agent at any position this offseason, and if he doesn’t re-sign with the Cowboys he’ll receive a huge deal elsewhere. Lawrence is just 26 years old and has 25 sacks over the past two seasons. He would have a huge impact in the Packers defense, but it’s hard to believe the Cowboys won’t re-sign him.
Other players to watch include Jadeveon Clowney, Dee Ford, Frank Clark and Trey Flowers. Again, it’s possible all four players could player under the franchise tag in 2019 or sign a long-term deal. But five weeks away from free agency, there’s a chance a top pass rusher could be available.
The Green Bay Packers have a lot of work to do to fix the pass rush this offseason. Being active in free agency is just the start.
