The Green Bay Packers address two positions of need in the latest NFL Spin Zone mock draft.

Edge rusher and safety are arguably the Green Bay Packers‘ two biggest needs. And Cory Kinnan of NFL Spin Zone has them addressing both positions in his latest mock draft.

In the mock draft, the Packers select Florida edge rusher Jachai Polite at 12th overall, and Delaware safety Nasir Adderley with the 30th overall pick.

I’m not counting, but my guess is if you rounded up every mock draft written across the internet so far this offseason, Polite would be the most popular name to Green Bay in the first round.

And for good reason. Erik Lambert of NFL Mocks wrote about why Polite will be a first-round steal:

"“Polite was born and bred to hunt NFL quarterbacks. He’s way too much of a natural at it both in terms of his athleticism and his skill. If he can learn to embrace a proper work ethic and add some power to his frame, he could be in line to top 100 or more sacks by the end of his career.”"

For a team needing more sacks from their edge rushers, Polite could be a great addition to the defense right away.

Safety will also be near the top of the list of priorities for general manager Brian Gutekunst this offseason. Kentrell Brice is a free agent, and Gutekunst let Morgan Burnett walk last offseason then traded away Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.

If Adderley is still there at No. 30, he could very well be the Packers’ choice.

Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com ranked Adderley 27th among all prospects in this year’s class, and wrote that “Adderley is an ideal, pure free safety and should be a quality starter immediately in his rookie campaign”.

Drafting for need isn’t always the right way to go, but with Polite and Adderley, the Packers would be getting two players with first-round talent who can both make an immediate impact on defense at positions of need.

And with eight selections remaining on the final two days of the draft, the Packers would be in a strong position after the opening night. As the Packers continue to strengthen the defense, adding Polite and Adderley could be a great way to start the draft.
