Packers-Bears Week 1 contest was one of best in entire NFL season

The Green Bay Packers’ regular season opener against the Chicago Bears was one of the best games of the entire NFL season.

It started with hope. The Green Bay Packers had their two-time MVP quarterback back for the new season, fully healthy. For the Chicago Bears, a new era was beginning under head coach Matt Nagy.

It had the star players. Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams on offense for the Packers. Khalil Mack debuting for the Bears.

The game had the drama. The Bears’ quick start. Rodgers’ injury, which initially looked like it could end his season. Chicago’s big halftime lead which surprised just about every NFL fan watching.

But then came the comeback. Rodgers somehow played on despite barely being able to stand up on his injured knee. And finally came the Hollywood ending: Randall Cobb‘s 75-yard touchdown to give the Packers an improbable one-point victory.

The oldest rivalry in the NFL to kick off the Packers’ 100th season. It was a classic, and one of Rodgers’ greatest ever performances.

For all of those reasons you could make an argument that it was the best game of the season. I’ll admit, I can understand putting the LA Rams-Kansas City Chiefs game ahead of it. It’s not often we get to see two great offenses go head-to-head with both teams putting up over 50 points.

But outside of that game, few were more exciting and filled with as much drama as the Packers’ season opener against the Bears.

NFL Network disagrees.

While they also think the Week 1 showdown at Lambeau Field was one of the best games of the season, they have it down at No. 11. The Rams-Chiefs game will almost certainly be at No. 1, but which other games would rank higher than Green Bay’s victory?

Chargers-Chiefs? Chiefs-Patriots? Both great games, but I’m not so sure they should be higher on the list.
