Packers: Aaron Jones early 2019 fantasy football predictions
Based on his current average draft position for the 2019 season, Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones could be a league-winner in fantasy football.
Watching the Green Bay Packers in 2018 was frustrating. One reason why was that every time Aaron Jones seemed to be getting a bigger role in the offense, Mike McCarthy would rotate the running backs.
Jones was the Packers’ most efficient running back in 2018, averaging 5.5 yards per carry, which ranked No. 1 in the NFL.
What can we expect from Jones in fantasy football next season?
How Jones finished in 2018
Despite missing a total of four games, Jones still finished with 728 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. According to Fantasy Pros, he finished 20th among running backs for fantasy points in half-point PPR.
What to expect in 2019
The change at head coach should improve Jones’ fantasy numbers in 2019. In Mike McCarthy’s offense, it was frustrating how Jones could play the majority of snaps at running back in one quarter then not be used again in the next.
The new offense under Matt LaFleur is expected to feature more of the ground game, which is good news for Jones. Unless the Packers sign a big-name free agent, Jones should be the featured back in LaFleur’s offense, and he could also see a bigger role as a receiver.
It’s impressive that Jones was able to finish as a top-20 running back in 2018 despite being given limited opportunities by McCarthy, and only playing in 12 games. He could have a breakout 2019 season with LaFleur as head coach.
Fantasy draft
In fantasy drafts last season, Jones was the 39th running back to be selected, according to his average draft position by Fantasy Football Calculator. Part of that was due to his two-game suspension, and also the uncertainty about how the carries would be distributed between the Packers’ running backs.
Currently, Jones’ ADP has moved up to the RB14 for 2019. That’s the difference between an eighth-round pick in 12-team leagues a year ago to a fourth-round pick in 2019.
This highlights the confidence that Jones will be the leader of the Packers’ backfield, and that he will be given an increased role under LaFleur.
Assuming Jones is Green Bay’s number one running back in preseason, he could be a league-winning selection in the fourth round.
