Packers select edge rusher Jachai Polite in latest mock draft
NFL Spin Zone’s pre-combine mock draft has the Green Bay Packers focusing on defense in Round 1.
It’s the week of the NFL scouting combine. This will give the Green Bay Packers, as well as the other 31 teams in the league, a great opportunity to meet with a number of the top draft prospects.
The combine will have an impact on draft boards. Some players might give themselves a great chance to be selected in the first round with a strong week here.
Ahead of the scouting combine, Cory Kinnan of NFL Spin Zone has put together his latest NFL mock draft.
Arguably Green Bay’s two top needs this offseason are at edge rusher and safety. Guard, tackle and tight end are also needs. In the mock draft, Kinnan has the Packers focusing on improving the defense.
In the first round of the mock draft, the Packers select edge rusher Jachai Polite at No. 12 and safety Nasir Adderley with the No. 30 pick.
There’s a good chance that Polite won’t just be arguably the best player remaining on the board at No. 12 overall, but he would also help address the biggest offseason priority, which is to fix the pass rush.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the first round plays out. The Packers need help at so many positions, making it difficult to predict exactly how general manager Brian Gutekunst will plan to improve the roster. I could just as easily see Green Bay using its two first-round picks on offense, with a tackle or guard and tight end.
But if they were to select Polite and Adderley with their first two picks, it could be considered a strong start to the draft for the Green Bay Packers. And they’d still have eight more selections to work with on the final two days, including six on Day 3.
