Randall Cobb

A year ago, Brian Gutekunst decided to release Jordy Nelson and keep Randall Cobb on the roster. This offseason, I don’t see Cobb coming back.

Cobb finished with 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns in a breakout 2014 season that led to a new four-year contract the following offseason, but he’s been unable to find any kind of consistency since. Cobb hasn’t hit 1,000 yards in a season since, and finished with just 383 yards and two touchdowns from nine games in 2018.

A long injury history and inconsistent play makes it hard to re-sign Cobb unless it’s to a short-term, “prove it” type deal.

Michael Silver of NFL Network predicted last month that the Packers won’t bring back Cobb, and it’s hard to disagree.

He has made a number of huge plays for this team in his career from the division-winning touchdown in 2013 at Chicago to the 75-yard game-winner against the Bears in the 2018 season-opener. Cobb also had a key three-touchdown performance to help the Packers defeat the New York Giants in the 2016 playoffs.

But despite the important plays over the years, Cobb hasn’t been able to stay on the field due to injury, and I think the Packers make a change at wide receiver this offseason.

Prediction: Walks
