Brian Burns, EDGE, Florida State

It’s no secret the Packers’ biggest need is at edge rusher. Many analysts considered Jachai Polite an option at No. 12, but a disappointing combine could result in Polite dropping out of the first round entirely.

But one player who could move up draft boards after the combine is Florida State edge rusher Brian Burns. And Burns could be a great option for Green Bay at No. 12 overall.

In fact, Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network has the Packers selecting Burns at that position in his post-combine NFL mock draft. Crabbs wrote: “You’ll have a hard time selling me a better match outside the top-10 picks than Burns and Green Bay.”

Burns finished the 2018 season with 10 sacks and three forced fumbles and entered the combine as one of the top edge rushers in the class. In Indianapolis, he ran an impressive 4.53-second 40-yard dash, third-best among edge rushers, according to NFL.com.

Burns and Montez Sweat of Mississippi State had excellent weeks at the combine, and both could even be taken before the Packers hit the clock at No. 12. My guess is that Sweat will be gone before Green Bay’s first pick, but Burns has a better chance to still be available.

And Burns would be an excellent addition to Mike Pettine’s defense.
