The Green Bay Packers have jumped up one position in the NFL.com post-free agency power rankings.

The Green Bay Packers still have a lot to prove before being considered one of the NFL’s Super Bowl contenders again. As one of the most active teams in free agency, they have moved up in the NFL.com post-free agency power rankings, but they only jumped up one position, from No. 18 to No. 17.

Elliot Harrison of NFL.com still has Green Bay inside the bottom half of the rankings, which based on the 2018 season is unsurprising. The Packers are third among NFC North teams, behind the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings.

It highlights the fact that this team still has a lot of work to do this offseason. General manager Brian Gutekunst has made a good start to the offseason, bringing in talent at edge rusher, safety and offensive tackle in free agency. He took a few risks with the contracts, but that’s the only option in free agency.

If Gutekunst can follow up a busy free agency period with a strong draft class (on paper, of course, as it’s impossible to know what a strong draft class really is right away), it’s possible the Packers will again be considered one of the NFC’s top teams.

That said, slipping under the radar isn’t a bad thing.

The Packers have the potential to bounce back in a big way under new head coach Matt LaFleur, especially if they can find a couple of difference-makers in the draft, and if Jaire Alexander and Marquez Valdes-Scantling can make the second-year jump.

It’s still early in the offseason and work is yet to be done. If the Packers come away from the draft with more help at edge rusher and safety, an early-round tight end and multiple picks along the offensive line, they’ll have a chance to make a quick turnaround in 2019.
