Round 1 (12): T.J. Hockenson, TE, Iowa

With Ed Oliver off the board, the Packers go for the best player available. That player is Iowa tight end T.J. Hockenson, and making this pick even better is the fact tight end is one of the Packers’ biggest needs entering the draft.

After going strong on defense in free agency, using the 12th pick to bring in one of the top offensive players in the class makes a ton of sense. And Hockenson can step right into Matt LaFleur’s offense and make an immediate impact.

Hockenson would be a perfect fit in this offense, not just because of his receiving ability, but also because he is an excellent blocker, which will be key if the Packers plan to run the ball more often moving forward.

As a receiver, Hockenson has the potential to become one of the best at the position in the NFL. He could make a similar impact as the likes of Travis Kelce and George Kittle. And with a future Hall-of-Famer throwing him the football, this would be an exciting move by the Packers.

Hockenson likely won’t be available when the Packers pick again at No. 30 overall, so he should very much be an option at No. 12.

For the impact Hockenson could have in LaFleur’s offense, this would be an excellent pick for the Packers.
