2. Select a safety early

Similarly to the offensive line, the Green Bay Packers also need to build on their free agency work at the safety position. Former Chicago Bear Adrian Amos gives the Packers secondary an immediate upgrade, but Gutekunst should look to add another player to the position in the early rounds. The good news is that this draft class is loaded with talent at safety, which could (and likely will) cause one of the top players at the position to fall to No. 44.

Johnathan Abram out of Mississippi State or Nasir Adderley out of Delaware could be great options in the early rounds, although the Packers might need to go a little earlier, possibly at No. 30, if they hope to draft either Abram or Adderley.

In the second round, Washington’s Taylor Rapp could be an option. Bucky Brooks of NFL.com has Rapp as the third-best safety in the class, and wrote that he is a “high-IQ deep defender with excellent anticipation”.

Ideally, the Packers will use one of their top three picks (No. 12, No. 30 or No. 44) at safety. If they can find a long-term starter to play next to Amos, the secondary will be in good shape for the 2019 season and beyond.
