Packers wide receiver corps ranked 17th best in NFL
The Green Bay Packers have a young wide receiver corps, but Sports Illustrated ranked the group 17th in the NFL.
Outside of Davante Adams, the Green Bay Packers have an unproven group of wide receivers, especially since letting Randall Cobb walk in free agency.
Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated ranked every wide receiver corps in the NFL, and he has the Packers at No. 17. Due to the team’s lack of experience overall at the position, it’s certainly understandable why Orr would put them so low in the rankings.
The Dallas Cowboys, Cobb’s new team, are one position higher than the Packers, and even the Patriots are higher at No. 15, which is somewhat surprising.
Here’s what Orr wrote about the Packers’ receivers:
"“A unit full of interesting developmental players. Aaron Rodgers has a lot to do with pulling them up early, but the Packers could use a little more juice here.”"
While he isn’t wrong with the assessment of the group overall, Orr didn’t mention the WR1 on the team, Davante Adams. While you could argue about the team’s depth and experience alongside Adams, the Packers’ leading receiver has put up double-digit touchdowns three straight years, is coming off his first 1,000-yard campaign, and is one of the most talented receivers in all of football.
The question moving forward is whether the trio of Geronimo Allison, Equanimeous St. Brown and Marquez Valdes-Scantling can step up in 2019. Who will start alongside Adams?
We’ll find out how much confidence GM Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur have in this group in the 2019 NFL Draft. Will they look to select a wide receiver in the early rounds? If not, it likely means they’re happy with the current receivers on the roster.
One thing Green Bay does have is an elite No. 1 wide receiver, and they aren’t easy to find. As long as Adams is healthy, Aaron Rodgers will have one of the best pass-catchers in the NFL to throw to.
If you were ranking each wide receiver corps in the NFL, where would you put the Packers?
