Packers regular season schedule to be released on Wednesday
The 2019 regular season schedule is on the way.
We now know when the Green Bay Packers will find out their schedule for the regular season. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the NFL will release the full schedule on Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT.
What we already know is the Packers and Bears will open the new league year with the Thursday Kickoff Game on Thursday, Sept. 5. But beyond that, the rest of the schedule is yet to be announced.
Here’s a list of the Packers’ 2019 regular season opponents:
Home: Bears, Lions, Vikings, Broncos, Eagles, Panthers, Raiders, Redskins
Road: Bears (September 5), Lions, Vikings, 49ers, Chargers, Chiefs, Cowboys, Giants
Many factors will determine how challenging the schedule is.
When is the bye week? The Packers’ break came in Week 4 back in 2013 and 2016, which makes it particularly challenging down the stretch when injuries build up. A bye around Week 10 would be ideal as it gives them a chance to get healthy ahead of the final seven games.
When will the road games be scheduled? And how many in a row? Last year, the Packers were given about as tough a run as imaginable with four road games in five weeks. Two of those road opponents made it to the Super Bowl (Rams, Patriots), one made the playoffs (Seahawks) and the other was a division rival (Vikings). Unsurprisingly, Green Bay lost all four.
Another note is whether the Packers have more home or road games in December. The most important part of the season, there will likely be a couple of division contests in the final month of the year. If Green Bay gets a few games at Lambeau Field late in the season, it’ll give the team a chance to build some momentum with home victories, which will be important if they make the postseason.
On Wednesday, we’ll find out just how challenging the 2019 schedule will be.
