Packers select D.K. Metcalf in NFL Spin Zone mock draft
In the final NFL Spin Zone mock draft, the Green Bay Packers add wide receiver D.K. Metcalf in the first round.
If the Green Bay Packers want to add another receiver, D.K. Metcalf could be the best option in the 2019 NFL Draft. In the latest NFL Spin Zone mock draft by Randy Gurzi, the Packers use their first of two opening-round selections on the Ole Miss wide receiver.
Following one of the most impressive performances by any player at the Scouting Combine back in February, Metcalf will likely be the first wide receiver selected in the draft later this week.
While many Packers fans won’t love the idea of the team using a pick this early on a wide receiver, it’s very much a possibility. Matt Miller of Bleacher Report noted earlier this month that it’s possible either the Packers or Buffalo Bills use a top-15 pick on Metcalf.
Wide receiver might not be viewed as the team’s biggest need, but let’s not forget how this offense has struggled in the past couple of years. If new head coach Matt LaFleur believes this new-look offense needs more help at wide receiver, why not go and get the best player at the position? A combination of Metcalf and Davante Adams at receiver could be a lot of fun to watch.
The biggest concern for Metcalf is his injury history. He was limited to 19 games over the past two seasons, but despite that, he still put up 12 receiving touchdowns.
Joe Marino of The Draft Network believes Metcalf has the potential to become one of the best receivers in the NFL over the next few years:
"“Metcalf is a universal scheme fit that has immense playmaking ability to every level of the field. By year three, Metcalf has the upside to become one of the premiere receivers in the NFL”"
And considering Davante Adams is already a top-five receiver, the two could form one of the best wide receiver duos in the league. This would be great news for Aaron Rodgers.
What are your thoughts on the possibility of selecting a wide receiver early? Should the Packers consider picking Metcalf at No. 12?
