3. Draft T.J. Hockenson

Jimmy Graham did not have a very good season in 2018, but basically the entire roster could be excoriated the same way. Every Packers receiver and tight end was victimized by Mike McCarthy’s schematic incompetence and the lack of an actual offensive coordinator. The Packers should not give up on Jimmy Graham. On his worst day, he is a gifted receiver who at the very least can be a force in the middle of the field. A new offensive brain at head coach and offensive coordinator will make Graham have a much better season in 2019.

With that said, T.J. Hockenson is so good that there is buzz about him potentially being selected as high as number seven overall. That would be the highest selection for a tight end since Vernon Davis went sixth overall to the 49ers in 2006.

Hockenson can provide the Green Bay offense with the blocking that Graham cannot, but can still stretch the middle of the field better than any tight end coming out of college in a long time. The problem with making this selection is that the Packers are getting closer to having an elite defense, and with a high draft pick invested defensively, they might get there. Secondly, Graham still has the ability to beat defenses and Irv Smith Jr. out of Alabama may be there for Green Bay at number 30.
