NFL Draft 2019: Packers select Rashan Gary No. 12 overall
The Green Bay Packers’ first pick in the 2019 NFL Draft is Michigan defensive end Rashan Gary.
The Green Bay Packers’ 2019 Draft is underway, and in the first round, they have selected defensive end Rashan Gary from Michigan.
The Packers addressed a position of need and will be hoping they have a Day 1 starter on defense.
The Packers’ recent history in the first round is somewhat of a mixed bag, but second-year general manager Brian Gutekunst is aiming to change that. He made a strong start by selecting cornerback Jaire Alexander in the first round in last year’s draft, and Gutekunst will be hoping for the same kind of success from both of the team’s first-rounders this year.
Gutekunst continues to build on what is looking like a strong offseason in Packers News. And it all started with a successful free agency period that saw the team address many of their biggest needs.
Before the draft got underway, Green Bay added edge rushers Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith to help fix the pass rush. The team also signed safety Adrian Amos, who will start right away, as well as offensive lineman Billy Turner, who could also start.
Now, the attention turns to the draft. A strong draft class will give the Packers a great opportunity to bounce back and reach the postseason in 2019. The two picks made tonight will have a huge impact on the team’s near future.
